Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz have opened up on the toughest opponent they’ve faced in their career, who is conveniently someone Arne Slot wanted at Liverpool this year.

Jeremie Frimpong joined Liverpool this summer for a fee of £29.5m, which could prove an absolute bargain for Arne Slot given the Dutchman’s frightening potential.

Not only did Liverpool raid Bayer Leverkusen for Frimpong, but they also got their crown jewel in Florian Wirtz.

The duo are not just dynamic on the pitch, but off it as well. They starred in Liverpool’s latest YouTube video in the series ‘Bezzies’, where they revealed their toughest opponent ever.

Wirtz and Frimpong laud Alphonso Davies as toughest opponent ever

The pair agreed that it was, in fact, Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies who was the most difficult opponent they’ve ever faced.

When asked the question, Wirtz immediately said Davies, and then Frimpong was asked to guess who the German had picked.

He said: “I think we have the same. Davies – he’s fast, man. Fast and strong.”

The pair will be grateful not to be in the Bundesliga anymore, and won’t have to face the quality of the Canadian. But actually, could they have been lining up alongside him?

Arne Slot wanted Alphonso Davies in January

According to the Daily Mail, in January, Liverpool wanted Davies, and he was one of three “potential options” at left-back for Slot.

At the time, Davies’ contract was running out at the end of the season, meaning he could have been available on the cheap, or on a free in the summer.

That was until the 24-year-old renewed his contract in February, all but ending Liverpool’s and any potential suitors’ interest.

Of course, Liverpool went for Milos Kerkez instead this summer.
