'Win for us': Some Arsenal fans buzzing with bizarre update on 27-year-old star

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been sent home from international duty after showing up late for training with his teammates.

According to Ghana Soccer Net, the 27-year-old has been dismissed from the camp ahead of an upcoming double-header. The team are due to face Morocco tomorrow and Partey rocked up late to train with his compatriots.

Partey is the vice-captain of the Ghana ranks and as a result, this news comes as a massive shock to plenty of people.

Charles Akonnor has questioned the Arsenal man’s commitment and subsequently wielded the axe ahead of this week’s games.

It comes as a big shock, with Partey typically a professional member of the Ghana squad and considering he’s a respected figure among the fellow players.

The midfield star was in Ghana enjoying some time off after the 2020/21 Premier League season had finished.

Despite that, he was reluctant to join up with the Ghana camp ahead of games against Morocco and the Ivory Coast, arriving late for the call-up.

Thomas Partey struggles continue

Arsenal pursued the Atletico Madrid midfielder for a long time and finally got their man on transfer deadline day last summer.

He cost £45 million and the signing was met with serious joy among supporters of the club. Many presumed his arrival would spark an upturn in the team’s fortunes, although that never really transpired.

The excitement proved pretty short-lived though. He wasn’t at his best during 2020/21 and struggled with fitness and consistency.

This episode on international duty is the latest blemish on Partey’s campaign.

The midfielder managed 33 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners and next season he will hope to do better, especially considering his substantial price tag.

Arsenal fans hope he’ll come good

After picking up several niggles, some supporters actually believe this situation can be good news, especially given how much time he’s missed this season.

Partey will now receive proper rest and, with that in mind, he won’t be required to take part in two pretty pointless friendlies for his country in the coming weeks.

The injuries suffered by the 28-cap star this season have typically been muscular and clearly, as a result, his body needs to recover.

The hope is that with a prolonged rest, Partey can be the player Arsenal hoped they had signed.

Following the news, supporters have been reacting on Twitter and they believe the Ghana boss might have done Mikel Arteta a favour.

Here is what the fan base had to say regarding Partey’s antics, with many bizarrely suggesting it to be a good thing for the Gunners.
