Wilson Isidor can match a Premier League record set by Darren Bent at Sunderland back in the 2010/11 campaign.

The 25-year-old has hit the ground running at the Stadium of Light in the top-flight, scoring two goals in his opening four outings.

One of these was a 96th-minute winner against Brentford before the international break, as the Black Cats struck twice in the final ten minutes of the match to secure a 2-1 victory.

Sunderland have been the Premier League’s surprise package and currently sit sixth in the league table, level on points with Everton.

Now, Isidor has the opportunity to break a record set by club legend Darren Bent when the Black Cats host Aston Villa on Sunday.

According to BBC Sport, Bent was the last Sunderland player to score in all three of his home matches in the Premier League back in 2010.

The pundit opened his campaign with goals against Birmingham City, a match-winner against Manchester City, and an injury-time equaliser against Arsenal.

A lot of noise has been made in recent weeks regarding the Black Cats’ summer spending as Regis Le Bris sought to acquire 14 new faces in the North East, totalling a spend of around £163 million.

Nordi Mukiele has been impressive since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain, while deadline day arrival Bertrand Traore has been dubbed a panic buy.

However, Isidor has been a game-changer at the Stadium of Light, scoring 13 goals to earn Premier League promotion last season. The club moved to make his loan move permanent from Zenit St Petersburg in January.

And it appears the Frenchman has picked up exactly where he left off from the Championship, as he proves to be Le Bris’ main goalscoring outlet.

While Sunderland are the underdogs heading into the clash against Aston Villa, the 0-0 draw against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace last time out has proven that the promoted side are capable of competing with the best teams in the top flight.

Wilson Isidor will feel confident about facing Aston Villa

The Villans have struggled tremendously under Unai Emery thus far and look a far cry from the side that narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season.

Harvey Elliott’s goal against Brentford in the Carabao Cup loss marked Villa’s first goal of the season across all competitions after five outings.

Furthermore, the side have conceded five goals equating to one goal per game whereas Sunderland have scored six goals in their opening five matches.

And with a full-capacity crowd at the Stadium of Light expected on Sunday, Isidor will undoubtedly fancy his chances of breaking Bent’s record for his former club against another of his former clubs.
