Adjusting to life in the Premier League can be difficult, but Sunderland have navigated it well enough to even gain a word of praise from Alan Shearer.
Sunderland have embarked on their first season in the English top flight after an eight-year absence, and supporters are full of expectation for what lies ahead.
While teams promoted from the Championship have struggled in recent years to compete in the Premier League, Sunderland have proven that they can cause problems.
With the first international break of the season now underway, Sunderland fans have time to assess their current situation.

Alan Shearer impressed by Sunderland’s ‘great start’ to the Premier League
Sunderland might be one of the newly promoted teams, but they have had no problem adjusting to the Premier League.
Two wins and a defeat in their opening three games have caught Alan Shearer’s attention, and the former Newcastle forward has praised the club on The Rest Is Football.
“They’ve had a right go, Sunderland, haven’t they? The money they have spent. I’m always nice about Sunderland.
“I told you it’s great to have them back in the Premier League, and they’ve had a great start. Well done, Sunderland.”
With an impressive 2-1 win against Brentford and an emphatic 3-0 victory over West Ham United, Regis Le Bris’ side have proven they’re not just around to make up the numbers.
Sunderland have splashed the cash to try to survive in the Premier League
The past two seasons have seen none of the promoted teams from the Championship avoid relegation, which is something Sunderland, Leeds United, and Burnley are all looking to change this time out.
After the opening three Premier League matches, all three teams are outside the relegation zone, but Sunderland sit the highest in sixth place.
One reason for their impressive start is their incredible transfer business, with Sunderland spending £183.4 million during the summer.
Fifteen players have been brought in throughout the transfer window, including former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka, Omar Alderete, and Simon Adringa, who will all strengthen the club’s depth.

Le Bris has been financially backed, although one of his summer signings has already departed the club after Chelsea recalled Marc Guiu from his loan due to Liam Delap’s injury.
Despite that hiccup, Sunderland have laid the foundation for the team to find success this season, and if the opening three games are anything to go by, then they’re capable of doing just that.
