Arsenal star William Saliba has put pen to paper on a brand new long-term contract that keeps him at the club until 2030.

The defender had entered the final two years of his deal with the Gunners this summer, putting pressure on sorting out his future.

Real Madrid have shown interest in Saliba, as they look at options to bolster their backline for the future.

However, it seems as though the Frenchman has decided to snub that opportunity, opting to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium instead.

TBR Football revealed that Arsenal had agreed a new deal with Saliba, with the terms of a five-year deal now fully signed.

Now that it is official, the 24-year-old has spoken out on the contract and revealed one reason why he still isn’t fully happy at Arsenal.

William Saliba wants Arsenal to win more trophies after signing a new contract

William Saliba’s new contract has come as quite a boost for Arsenal, as they now have one of their best players tied down to a long-term deal.

He joins Gabriel Magalhaes in extending his contract, leaving just Bukayo Saka left as one of the key expiries in the next two years.

It seems as though Arsenal had to fight off the lurking presence of Real Madrid in the background, but managed to do so to keep Saliba.

While the defender is seemingly delighted to sign new terms, he revealed there is one thing that is stopping him from being completely satisfied at the club.

He told the official Arsenal website in an interview: “I played well, we almost won the league in the first season, and we almost won the league the season after as well.

“I’m happy now, but not 100% happy because we have to do more. We have to win titles, because it’s what we want, what the club wants.”

Arsenal have been so close, yet just too far, when it comes to landing those big titles in recent seasons.

With three consecutive runners-up finishes in the Premier League and a final four appearance in the Champions League, it only feels a matter of time before the Gunners get over the line.

With Saliba in their ranks for the future, perhaps those chances of winning the biggest prizes increase just that little bit more.

William Saliba praises Arsenal fan impact after signing new contract

While the project and the management will have played a big part in Saliba extending his stay at Arsenal, the fans also seemingly played their part.

The defender revealed as much when discussing the fanbase and the chant that the supporters have for him.

He said: “I’ve enjoyed it [his chant] since the first time I heard it. I feel proud whenever I hear these songs, so thanks to the fans.

“I have a special connection with them, because even when I was on loan, when I was not playing here, they would send me messages to say: ‘one day, you will play for this club, you don’t have to give up.’ I will never forget this.

“Thank you for everything, thank you for the support. We know what they are waiting for, and we’ll give our best, even more than the previous season, to give them what they want.”

It’s a positive moment for Arsenal to reflect on, as Saliba looks to have that centre-back position nailed down for the future.
