Eddie Howe has spoken to the media ahead of Newcastle United’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

With deadline day approaching, Howe was asked a number of questions about Newcastle’s transfer activity.

As relayed by Chronicle Live, Howe confirmed that a decision had been made on defender Jamal Lewis.

Lewis had been linked with a move away from St. James’ Park this summer.

Two Premier League sides asked about the Northern Ireland international’s availability.

He was also linked with a move abroad, with Ligue 1 side Nice interested in the left-back.

However, Howe has now confirmed a decision has been made on Lewis’ future.

Howe confirms Lewis decision made

Newcastle’s manager said to the press: “Nothing other than we have discussed. Jamal Lewis will stay.”

It’s an interest decision from Howe, considering Lewis is yet to feature for Newcastle in the league this season.

The 24-year-old came off the bench to replace Matt Targett in the Carabao Cup.

However, he wasn’t involved against Wolves, suggesting he could be as low as fourth-choice at left-back.

Dan Burn started the match before being replaced by Matt Targett, with Paul Dummett also an unused substitute.

Newcastle have also used Matt Ritchie as a left-back, which makes the Lewis decision puzzling.

Lewis has made just 29 Premier League appearances for the Magpies since joining from Norwich City two years ago.

A long-term injury to Emil Krafth may have influenced Howe’s decision, although Lewis has never played at right-back for Newcastle.

Time will tell if it’s the right call, but for now, Howe seems convinced that Lewis won’t be going anywhere this week.
