Wigan fans react as Leeds United complete move to sign Sean McGurk
Leeds United have confirmed the addition of youngster Sean McGurk on Thursday, their fourth summer signing. The teenager joins from League One side Wigan for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year deal until 2024. Wigan fans have reacted on Twitter to McGurk swapping Wigan for Leeds.
McGurk, 18, has enjoyed a sensational season in which he has scored 16 goals for Wigan’s Under-18 side. The Latics won the Professional Development League North, with McGurk scoring 13 goals from midfield. In five FA Youth Cup games, McGurk also scored three goals for Wigan.
He has been regularly linked with a move to Leeds, even before Joe Gelhardt swapped Wigan for Elland Road. Now, eventually, a move has gone through as the Whites add a second player to the Under-23’s after Amari Miller. McGurk posted on Instagram following his move to Leeds.
What have Wigan fans said about Leeds signing McGurk?
McGurk has plenty of work to do to become a regular in Mark Jackson’s Under-23 side. Jack Jenkins, Sam Greenwood, Charlie Allen and plenty more have impressed in midfield for Leeds over the last 12 months – for the 23’s. They have been excellent in winning Premier League 2 Division 2.
Wigan fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that McGurk has departed the DW Stadium to join Leeds. Many are frustrated he never got the chance to play in the first team. Jamie Carragher has also been on social media, applauding wishing McGurk the best of luck following his move.
