Sean McGurk has completed a move to Leeds United on a three-year deal from Wigan Athletic. The youngster has been confirmed as the Yorkshire club’s fourth signing of the summer in the same week Junior Firpo joined from Barcelona. Jamie Carragher has sent him a three-word message.
McGurk, 18, finally joins Leeds after being linked with a move for numerous transfer windows. Joe Gelhardt, of course, completed the same move from Wigan to Leeds last summer. It comes after a brilliant 2020-21 campaign with Wigan’s Under-18 side, leading them to the title.
McGurk hit 13 goals from midfield as Wigan clinched the Professional Development League North title. The midfielder also notched five goals in three games during an FA Youth Cup run. Now, he has joined Leeds on a deal until 2024 and has posted on Instagram following his move.
What has Carragher said to new Leeds signing McGurk?
Of course, the Liverpool legend will know McGurk well – given his son James plays in the same Wigan team as McGurk. The latter is expected to join up with Mark Jackson’s Under-23 side, who gained promotion to the top tier of Under-23 football with the Premier League 2 tier 2 title.
McGurk will have plenty of talent in his way – the likes of Sam Greenwood, Charlie Allen, and more. But at just 18, he is showing enormous quality and Carragher has wished him luck on Twitter. He becomes the club’s fourth summer signing, after Firpo, Jack Harrison and Amari Miller.
