Leeds United are reportedly set to make a £7million bid to sign Huddersfield Town star Lewis O’Brien this summer. But a replacement might be needed by Town before they let O’Brien go – and Newcastle could help the situation. Newcastle could actually help Leeds sign O’Brien.
Leeds want O’Brien and have done for some time now, and reports state an offer is forthcoming. The Sun claim that Leeds are about to place a £7million bid to sign 22-year-old O’Brien. The midfielder has starred under Carlos Corberan, who sharpened his coaching tools under Marcelo Bielsa.
But Huddersfield will surely want to bring in a replacement for O’Brien, before the ex-Bradford City loanee can join Leeds. Now, Newcastle can help Huddersfield with a replacement – and simultaneously provide Leeds with a boost in getting a deal over the line for O’Brien.

Why could Newcastle help Leeds sign O’Brien from Huddersfield?
That is because the Evening Chronicle say Huddersfield are one of three clubs looking to bring 21-year-old Matty Longstaff in on loan. Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers are also keen on the midfielder – who scored twice against Manchester United in 2019-20. A loan for Longstaff is likely.
Newcastle could help Leeds get a deal over the line for O’Brien, then. Choosing Huddersfield for Longstaff would hand Corberan a replacement for O’Brien – allowing Leeds to strike a deal and bring O’Brien to Elland Road. Time will tell, if Huddersfield are happy with a £7million fee.
