Why Marcus Rashford’s performance vs Chelsea was a ‘big, big worry’ for Manchester United

Manchester United drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Sunday in what was an improved performance from the Red Devils.

It was far from a perfect showing, but based on how United’s season has gone so far, a draw against a team like Chelsea was far from a poor result.

That said, there were a few concerning signs.

Speaking on Off The Ball, Keith Treacy has been reviewing this game, and he says that Marcus Rashford’s performance was very worrying from his point of view.

Indeed, the pundit says that Rashford wasn’t at the races again during this game, and he was concerned by what he saw from the winger.

Marcus Rashford wasn’t at his best vs Chelsea

Treacy shared his verdict on how this game went.

The pundit was critical of Rashford, claiming that his performance was a big worry.

“I think Palmer was okay in terms of linking the play, but in terms of being that threat, in terms of scoring the goal, wasn’t quite there, although he huffed and puffed Pedro Neto the same,” Treacy said.

“Rashford, he had a volley that he hit the crossbar with, but generally not really at the races again, which is a big, big worry for Manchester United. But what I liked about Hojlund is his physical attributes.

“When that ball gets fired into him, he’s keeping the two Chelsea centre halves at bay, he’s bringing Garnacho into the game, he’s bringing Rashford into the game, and balls into the box, he’s affecting what the two Chelsea centre halves are doing.”

Will Marcus Rashford get back to his best?

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Rashford has been criticised as of late.

Rashford has been under fire for quite some time now, and his stats since the start of last season make for some pretty grim reading.

However, there may be some reason to be optimistic about what Rashford can do in the near future.

Ruben Amorim is set to takeover at the new Manchester United manager next week, and a change in coach can often spur Rashford on to rediscover his best form.

Owen Hargreaves has tipped Rashford to improve once Amorim takes charge, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the England international did kick on.

Whether or not Rashford can improve or not remains to be seen, but, by the looks of things, it can’t get much worse for the attacker from this point onwards.
