Why Chelsea would rather have loaned Axel Disasi to Tottenham rather than Aston Villa before deal collapsed

Axel Disasi’ future has been one of the biggest talking points surrounding Chelsea in recent weeks.

Disasi is unhappy at Chelsea, having made just 17 appearances for them this season and is looking for the exit door out of Cobham.

The battle to sign the Chelsea centre-back on loan has raged between Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

Disasi prefers to join Tottenham over Aston Villa as Unai Emery’s side can offer him Champions League football.

Disasi has agreed terms to join Aston Villa on loan as well, who recently confirmed their qualification into the last 16 of Europe’s elite competition.

Chelsea wanted Axel Disasi to go to Tottenham on loan instead of Aston Villa

However, Tottenham enquired about signing Disasi, with Ange Postecoglou admitting Spurs are “short” in defence after having signed Kevin Danso from RC Lens on loan.

Enzo Maresca is reportedly happy to move Disasi on as the Italian does not think the Frenchman suits his style of play and the Blues’ focus will be on letting him go before the transfer window slams shut on Monday.

But interesting, the Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea were far more open to Tottenham signing Disasi on loan over Aston Villa as they view them as direct rivals to qualify for the Champions League.

However, Spurs are out of the running to sign the former AS Monaco defender as he would rather join Unai Emery’s side.

Aston Villa’s loan move for Disasi looked unlikely as Chelsea reportedly made the deal “unaffordable” for them due to the fear that they could trounce them in the race for top four. But Disasi, who was eyed by Juventus as well is finally set to be granted his wish.

Tottenham’s deadline day targets after Axel Disasi move fails

Moving on from the £38 million (BBC Sport) man, Tottenham made a late bid to sign Marc Guehi, which was rejected by Crystal Palace.

Another Chelsea player who Tottenham have shown interest in is Joao Felix.

However, sources have told TBR Football that Joao Felix feels he could AC Milan now.

Ange Postecoglou is a huge admirer of Bryan Mbeumo but he is set to stay at Brentford as well.

Tottenham, who are in 14th place in the Premier League will be hoping that by the time deadline day comes to an end, they can add another fresh face to their injury-raved squad.
