France captain Hugo Lloris has already expressed his admiration for Tottenham target and fellow countryman Illan Meslier.
Tottenham are reportedly keen on Meslier to be their long term goalkeeper when they eventually decide to move Lloris to one side.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay said: “There is loads and loads of interest in Meslier. I do feel like he’s going to be one of Leeds’ most important and probably best players this season.
“Tottenham are a side who are particularly interested in Meslier. And obviously, at some point the goalkeeping situation is going to change there.”

Lloris hails Tottenham target Meslier
Perhaps unsurprisingly as French goalkeepers in the Premier League, Lloris and Meslier have already said plenty about each other.
In November 2021, RMC Sport reported that Lloris has suggested Meslier could be his replacement as France’s number one.
“There’s Illan Meslier, who is doing very nice things in the Premier League,” he said.
“He’s a young goalkeeper, but when you look at what he’s doing at his age, in such a tough and intense league, it shows all his potential.”
For his part, Meslier told Sky Sports in May: “Hugo is a fantastic person, a lot of respect for him because to be a keeper for Tottenham for 10 years, more or less, maybe more for the French teams, he’s maybe the greatest goalkeeper in France in history.”
In August 2021, he told the Athletic of Lloris: “He just said he was very happy with how it was going for me. A big-up for him, because he’s a very nice person.
“To be called up by France, that could only come from here (from Leeds). I have to be performing for Leeds first and it’s down to me, myself. I don’t know about being No 1 for France… it’s possible.”
It seems Lloris could be usurped by Meslier at club and international level in the coming years, but he will not come cheap given how well he is performing for Leeds and how much experience he has already for a young goalkeeper.
