‘When I speak to Saudi dealmakers’… Journalist shares what he’s no hearing about Jota and Tottenham

Jota has been linked with a move to Tottenham pretty much since day one of Ange Postecoglou’s reign.

The winger was one of Postecoglou’s favourites during his time at Celtic, and after his move to Saudi Arabia started to go haywire, Spurs were linked with a move for the attacker.

With the January window now open, Jota continues to be linked to Tottenham, but according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on Last Word on Spurs, there may not be too much too these links.

Indeed, Jacobs says that he would downplay the links to Jota right now, claiming that the Saudi dealmakers he speaks to aren’t in a rush to move the winger on at the moment.

No rush to move Jota on

Jacobs shared his verdict on what may happen with Jota.

“I would downplay the Jota links at the moment, although he may be available at value. He’s effectively a squad player and he doesn’t seem happy with that. When I speak to Saudi dealmakers I hear that they’re not in a rush, we read about how Al-Ittihad want him out and to force a sale, but not necessarily, don’t be surprised if this is resolved in the summer,” Jacobs said.

Not desperate for him

By the sounds of it, Jota may not be all that likely to join Tottenham this summer, but, in all honesty, they probably don’t need him.

Predominantly a left winger, Jota isn’t necessarily needed in this set-up right now.

Tottenham already have Heung-Min Son and Brennan Johnson to play in that role, while Richarlison, Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil are also options.

Spurs do have work to do in January, but a new left winger shouldn’t necessarily be their top priority this month.

Jota could be on the move in the summer, and it wouldn’t be surprise if a Premier League club did come in, but it’s probably not going to be Spurs at this point.
