After making his debut for Arsenal in the Champions League, Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie succumbed to a groin injury.
Piero Hincapie was Arsenal and Andrea Berta’s final signing of the summer transfer window.
The versatile left-footed defender arrived from Bayer Leverkusen on loan and there’s an obligation to buy clause included, provided that certain conditions are met.
Gabriel Martinelli has already praised Hincapie since his arrival, and it is a great shame that the Ecuador international’s start has been disrupted by injury.
Hincapie thinks he’s good enough to start for Arsenal, and some do believe that Arteta intends to use the 23-year-old as a left-back on occasion, even though he’s predominantly been a centre-back thus far in his career.
Piero Hincapie’s Arsenal injury return date revealed
In the lead up to the game, Arteta ruled Hincapie out of Arsenal’s tie with Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium.
However, there hasn’t been much in the way of a definitive return date for Hincapie, who Arsenal fans are keen to see in regular action.

Fortunately, reliable source HandofArsenal, who post their updates on X (formerly known as Twitter), have provided an insight into Hincapie’s situation.
According to the account, Hincapie is hoping to return this month in October if all goes smoothly.
The outlet simply wrote: “Piero Hincapie is targeting an October return if all goes to plan.
“The Ecuadorian is dealing with a groin injury.”
And whilst Arsenal fans won’t want Hincapie’s return to be rushed, the defender’s short but tenacious debut against Athletic Club left supporters wanting to see more.
Ecuador will likely be without Piero Hincapie for October fixtures
On the basis of that update, one would assume that Hincapie won’t be called up or travel for Ecuador’s international fixtures this month.
Hincapie’s country plays the United States October 11, and then they also face Mexico four days later.
Both matches are friendlies, and therefore Arsenal fans will hope that every precaution is taken to allow Hincapie to return without any hitches.
Ecuador also have two international fixtures in November, and those two matches should be a lot more realistic for the defender.
Of course, it will be interesting to see where Hincapie’s opportunities come once he is fully fit.
Gabriel Magalhaes was incredible against Newcastle United for Arsenal, and he won’t be surrendering his starting spot at left centre-back any time soon.
And therefore Hincapie might actually end up predominantly competing with Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly as a full-back.
