Arsenal legend Ian Wright has hit out at Wolves star Ruben Neves following his comments about the Gunners last week.

Mikel Arteta’s men took on Wolves at the Molineux last week and played a great game. They were the better side for the most part, but Gabriel Martinelli’s red card in the 69th minute gave the hosts an advantage.

Wolves threw everything at the Gunners, but resilient defending secured a 1-0 win for Arteta and co. Arsenal, unsurprisingly, celebrated their hard-fought victory with the away fans and that, for some reason, irked Ruben Neves.

The Portuguese international, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, accused the Gunners of celebrating like they had won the league. Wright hasn’t taken those comments too kindly.

Wright addressed Neves’ comments on his podcast and the legendary Englishman was not a happy man.

He said: “I was vexed with Neves, coming out and saying ‘look at how Arsenal are celebrating’.

“What’s wrong with you?

“That’s an unbelievable result for Arsenal the way that you lot have been playing. 1-0 nil down with ten men away from home and we get the goal [win]. That is cause for celebration!”

By just looking at the celebrations at the end, it is easy to say that Arsenal went overboard.

However, the last 25 minutes was relentless for the Gunners defenders and Arsenal teams of recent past would’ve surely conceded a goal or two after the sending off.

Arsenal had every right to celebrate the way they did and Wright is spot on with his assessment.

It will be awkward for Neves if Arsenal do make a move for him in the summer. He has been linked with the Gunners for quite some time now and it will be interesting to see how his conversation with Mikel Arteta will go if a transfer is indeed on the cards before the start of next season.
