Yoane Wissa is all set to join Newcastle United from Brentford on deadline day.
The Congolese striker has been in the news a lot over the last month, with several clubs linked with a move to sign him.
Wissa even released a public transfer request to leave Brentford, and it looks like he is about to get his wish.
Newcastle have agreed a £55 million deal to sign Wissa, who is undergoing a medical right now.
What Yoane Wissa did before Newcastle and Brentford agreed terms
Newcastle have been trying to sign Wissa for weeks.
Brentford proved to be very tough negotiators and rejected three bids from the Magpies, who have had a difficult summer.
It was clear from the start that Wissa wanted to join Newcastle, but until the morning of deadline day, that was not a guarantee.
Despite that, Wissa travelled to Tyneside on Sunday night to be ready for a medical in case the two clubs reached an agreement.
That paid off as a £55 million deal has been struck between Newcastle and Brentford, and the transfer is expected to be made official in the coming hours.
That’s according to Ben Jacobs, who revealed: “Yoane Wissa travelled to Newcastle last night in anticipation of a move this morning. Medical to begin shortly.
“Wissa has agreed a four-year contract, as revealed.”
Newcastle fans will love Yoane Wissa
Newcastle United fans had to go through a lot in this summer’s transfer window.
The Alexander Isak saga was exhausting on its own, but seeing the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Joao Pedro choosing other clubs must have been difficult.
Wissa making the trip to Tyneside without knowing if his desired move would go through shows just how much he wanted to sign for Newcastle in this window.
We’re sure that will go down well among the Toon fans, and he will get a fantastic reception at St James’ Park after the international break.
With Nick Woltemade and Wissa, Newcastle have replaced both Isak and Callum Wilson. It will be interesting to see how they will fare in the coming months.
