What William Saliba did to Ivan Toney during 2-1 win, Arsenal fans loved it

Arsenal fans particularly enjoyed one moment between William Saliba and Ivan Toney during the 2-1 win over Brentford.

It drew loud cheers from the Emirates Stadium faithful.

So, what happened between Arsenal No.2 William Saliba and Ivan Toney? Let’s take a look…

What William Saliba did to Ivan Toney

Well, the France international got supporters on their feet after barging the England international to the deck in the 30th minute of today’s Premier League clash.

Saliba physically dominated Toney after the Brentford No.17 collected a high ball, outmuscling the striker while also legitimately emerging with possession, which the Arsenal fans loved.

There is perhaps more to their delight than meets the eye.

Toney famously tweeted “nice kick around with the boys” after Brentford recorded a 2-0 win over Arsenal back in August 2021, a post which Mikel Arteta actually showed his players in the dressing room once, as we witnessed on Amazon Prime’s All or Nothing documentary.

Therefore, it could be argued that Saliba wanted to get a little bit of revenge on the 27-year-old after he mocked the Gunners.

They could be teammates at Arsenal

Ironically, Saliba and Toney could actually become teammates this summer.

A story from Sportslens claims that Arsenal are expected to sign the Brentford talisman this summer, and Edu believes he can strike a deal for £60m.

According to TEAMtalk, Arteta himself has personally requested that the Northampton-born forward is signed this summer, with another story by the Mirror stating that Arsenal lead the race ahead of Manchester United.

That signing certainly wouldn’t surprise us, as – despite a superb run of goalscoring form in 2024 – Arsenal do still lack a proper No.9 to lead the line.

Hopefully – if a deal does materialise this summer – there will be no bad blood remaining between Saliba and Toney.
