What sources close to Liverpool are saying about Mo Salah’s future ahead of Federico Chiesa signing

Liverpool are set to be bolstered by the arrival of Federico Chiesa, with the Italian currently in Merseyside to finalise a move from Juventus.

The 26-year-old is set to put pen to paper on a four-year deal after the two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £13m including add-ons.

Steve Nicol believes Chiesa’s signing is a no-brainer for Liverpool at that price, with the Italy international capable of playing across multiple positions in attack.

And now, sources close to Liverpool believe his impending arrival could have a positive effect on Mohamed Salah‘s future at the club.

Federico Chiesa’s presence could allow Liverpool to manage Mohamed Salah’s minutes

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool’s decision to pursue a surprise move for Chiesa could have been made with one eye on Salah, who is the only out-and-out right winger in the squad currently.

The Egyptian has started games more often than not when fully fit since joining the club in 2017 and in that period, Liverpool never had an able deputy that allowed them to rest their biggest matchwinner.

The report states that Chiesa’s arrival could extend Salah’s period of ‘extraordinary productivity’ at the club while also dismissing claims that the Italian could well turn out to be the successor to his Anfield throne.

Another interesting bit of detail is that Slot has reportedly taken note of Salah’s slight dip in form during the business end of last season when he was visibly fatigued after the AFCON and was also nursing a hamstring injury.

Chiesa’s presence would allow Slot to nip such issues in the bud, making his impending arrival a bigger net positive for the club than what was initially believed to be the case.

What does the future hold for Salah?

Salah is believed to be very happy at the club after Slot’s arrival and has started the season in fine form, notching up two goals and an assist from two Premier League games.

He remains Liverpool’s leading man in attack and has shown no signs of slowing down despite being well into his 30s.

The lure of moving to Saudi Arabia might appeal to him later in his career, but Salah is still far too good to ditch European football for the Middle East.

However, he is likely to see how Liverpool develop under Slot in the coming months before making a decision on his future.
