Liverpool announced the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia on Tuesday – and a second deal of the summer is imminent.

In case you hadn’t heard, Liverpool have now agreed a £10.9m deal to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus – which represents a real bargain for a UEFA Euro 2020 winner who cost the Italian giants £54m back in 2020.

The man who made 60 appearances for Liverpool has now reacted with shock on X (previously known as Twitter) – after he discovered that the sale of Dominic Solanke to Bournemouth back in January 2019 has practically paid for this signing.

For those who are unaware, Liverpool negotiated a 20% sell-on clause when agreeing to let the England international join Bournemouth in a £19m deal over five years ago.

This shrewd move from Michael Edwards paid off spectacularly this summer after Tottenham decided to sign Solanke in a £65m deal, triggering his release clause.

According to The Athletic, this landed Liverpool a welcome £9m injection of cash – meaning the deal for Chiesa technically cost the Reds just £1.9m once that chunk of money is factored in.

After this was brought to Hutchinson’s attention, the 53-year-old wrote “wow 👀” on X.

Now that is how you do business at the highest level – Edwards is well and truly back to his best at Liverpool in his new role as CEO of Football, after a period away from Anfield.

Once Chiesa completes his medical and signs on the dotted line, it sounds like Liverpool could still do more business.

A story from Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany has just revealed that Liverpool have enquired about RB Leipzig No.2 Mohamed Simakan – as Arne Slot looks to add a new central defender to his squad.

However, Newcastle are also keen to sign the Frenchman, so the Reds do not have a clear run at the 24-year-old’s signature.
