The Premier League referees’ association are said to be at war against Arsenal and Mikel Arteta after what happened following the game at Newcastle United at the weekend.

The Gunners suffered their first defeat in the league this season at St James’ Park in controversial fashion. A number of decisions went against them, and Arteta was furious after the game. Arsenal even backed their manager’s outburst with a statement of their own on Sunday.

Premier League referees not happy with Mikel Arteta and Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s reaction after the game against Newcastle United caught everyone’s eye, and everybody seems to have an opinion about it.

A number of pundits, including Gary Neville, are adamant that Arteta and Arsenal are wrong to do what they have done. The Manchester United legend even called it a ‘dangerous‘ thing to do.

Now, the Daily Mail has revealed how the people inside the PGMOL have reacted to Arteta’s strong comments and Arsenal’s official statement over the weekend.

It has been claimed that the referees are far from happy with Arteta’s words and there is now a ‘friction’ between Arsenal and the refereeing body.

A source inside the PGMOL apparently even branded Arsenal’s actions as ‘over the top’ and completely unnecessary as they feel the referees are making great strides to ensure greater accuracy under Howard Webb.

In an upcoming meeting now, Arsenal are set to pull out of a long list of decisions that have gone against them since the start of last season, including the infamous one against Brentford where the VAR official forgot to draw lines while checking for offside.

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal should not apologise

The referees are under a tremendous amount of pressure every week, and they definitely deserve our sympathy when things don’t go well for them.

However, irrespective of what happened with Arsenal at the weekend, fans of every club in the country will agree that the standards of officiating are absolutely awful.

There seems to be no improvement whatsoever over the last year or two, and if anything, there have been a lot more errors recently than before.

People will be against Arsenal and Arteta for their decision to do what they did, but somebody had to take a stand, and we feel they were right – they don’t have to apologise to anyone.
