Alexander Isak has spoken to the media for the first time since securing his acrimonious exit from Newcastle to seal a British-record transfer to Liverpool.
Isak refused to train at Newcastle over the summer in a bid to force through a transfer to Liverpool, believing he had an agreement to leave St James’ Park this summer.
After a high-profile stand-off, Liverpool finally saw their £125m bid accepted on transfer deadline day, sealing their new number nine late in the window. Newcastle announced the sale with a factual 37-word statement, with no word of thanks to Isak for his contributions at the club.

Isak himself posted a classy farewell message to Newcastle, and now the striker has responded to that cold exit message while on international duty with Sweden.
Alexander Isak breaks Liverpool silence on 37-word Newcastle statement, suggests a ‘bigger picture’
Speaking after Sweden’s shock 2-0 defeat to Kosovo in World Cup qualifying, in which Isak only featured off the bench, the new Liverpool striker was asked about the nature of his Newcastle exit and the Magpies’ statement.
“It’s a bit like it is. It’s clear that not everyone has the whole picture, but that’s something for another day,” Isak responded. “Right now, the disappointment lies in this match and how it went. But at the same time, I have a positive feeling about the club team part that is coming.

“It’s part of football. I can’t control everything that is said or written. But I’m happy that I became a Liverpool player. That’s what I wanted and I’m happy about that.”
Isak had made it clear he wanted to join Liverpool, and told club media that he moved to ‘win everything’ at Anfield.
Alexander Isak reflects on ‘educational’ Liverpool transfer and remains tight-lipped over Newcastle goodbyes
Isak was further pressed on his Newcastle departure, calling it a ‘closed chapter’, and suggesting he has learned plenty from how the transfer was handled.

He said: “There is a lot to discuss and a lot to discuss. It has been educational and I am happy with the final result. I am happy and proud to be a Liverpool player.
And when asked if he got to say goodbye to his teammates after training away from them before his last-minute transfer, Isak deflected the question.
He replied: “I don’t want to go into details or talk about that situation too much. It’s a closed chapter but I’ve never had any problems.”
