‘What is going on with him?’… Ian Wright suggests 23-year-old Arsenal player could be sold now

Arsenal have work to do in the January transfer window, but they may not be able to sign new players without selling a few first.

Indeed, after spending over £200m in the summer, Arsenal are pushing the limits of FFP as things stand – hence why David Raya was only signed on an initial loan rather than a permanent deal.

Arsenal may need to sell to buy this month, and speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright has suggested that Emile Smith Rowe could be one player on the chopping block after playing little football over the past two years.

Smith Rowe could go

Wright spoke about Arsenal’s situation alongside Julien Laurens.

“They spent a lot in the summer on Rice, Havertz, Timber, I don’t think they will be able to sign three players in January if they want to anyway, you might have departures, someone like Kiwior who I think wants to play more, especially if he wants to go to the Euros,” Laurens said.

“What about someone like Emile Smith Rowe as well? What is going on with him?” Wright added.

Needs a move

A move for Emile Smith Rowe this month could suit all parties.

Let’s not forget, this is an incredibly talented player who was on the brink of becoming an England regular before his injuries, but now, he can’t buy a game at Arsenal.

For one reason or another, Mikel Arteta doesn’t seem to trust Smith Rowe as he once did, and his minutes have dried up.

There are plenty of clubs in the Premier League that would be desperate to have a player like Smith Rowe in their team, and they’d be willing to pay a pretty penny to bring him in.

If Arsenal do indeed need to offload players to bring more in this month, Smith Rowe could be one of the first out the door.
