What Harry Kane said about Spurs target Kalvin Phillips
TEAMtalk has reported this week that Spurs are one of the sides monitoring Kalvin Phillips’ situation as Leeds set their sights on agreeing a new contract with the 25-year-old.
Phillips continues to go from strength to strength for club and country. It is remarkable to think that he had barely made his debut in the Premier League and for England this time last year.
Unsurprisingly, Leeds are looking to reward the midfielder. And TEAMtalk claims that they are prepared to make him the highest paid player at Elland Road.
A host of teams are looking on. And Tottenham are apparently one of those who would like to sign him if he became available.
Obviously, with his current terms running until 2024, Leeds are not under much pressure to sell right now. But you can understand why clubs are keeping tabs on the situation.
And if the chance did come up, you would imagine Harry Kane would be delighted to see Phillips arrive.
The pair have got to know each other on international duty. Kane actually suggested that Phillips was as fit as they come in an interview with Gary Neville.
Shortly after those comments, the Leeds man stole the show as England beat Croatia in their Euro 2020 opener.
“He’s been brilliant. He’s just come off the back of a shoulder injury as well, but he’s been good in training and working hard to be fit for the first game. He was selected today and done a fantastic job.”
Spurs will need to produce something special to lure Kalvin Phillips from Leeds
As mentioned, Leeds have little need to worry about Phillips’s future right now.
It is important that Marcelo Bielsa’s men continue to progress if they hope to keep their best players.
And should they manage to keep pushing on, clubs are going to have to be prepared to part with huge sums to even tempt Leeds to consider selling Phillips.
