Djed Spence really hasn’t had the best time of it this past 18 months.
Simply put, his move to Tottenham has been a disaster.
He barely got a game for Spurs last season before being shipped out to Rennes, while his loan spell with Leeds also proved to be a failure this term.
Now, Spence is on his way to Genoa, and it does feel as though his career is coming off the rails a little bit.
However, with that being said, there are still some within the game who really rate Spence.
Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, Tom Barclay has been discussing Spence, and he says that those within the England setup, particularly at U21 level still really like the right-back.

Spence admired by England staff
Barclay shared what he knows.
“Yeah, Djed Spence, he almost became the embodiment of the frustration of the Spurs fans against Conte, but as things pass you think Conte probably got that one right. He went to Leeds this year, and you thought this was a good chance, but he barely players, the suggestions are that he and Daniel Farke didn’t see eye to eye,” Barclay said.
“He’s in this situation where he’s 23 now, and he needs to get his career going, I covered the England U21s for a long time and they like him, the manager, Lee Carsley, he really likes him a lot, maybe he just needs a manager who believes in him.”
Talented
There’s no doubting that Djed Spence is a talented player.
The full-back, at his best, is an absolute menace down that right flank, and he showed that during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest.
Unfortunately, since then, he’s not been able to get to grips with his own game, and he’s faltered.
Those who have seen Spence at his best will always swear by his ability, but, unfortunately, those performances have been few and far between over the past 18 months.
Let’s hope that this move to Genoa can help Spence get back to his best.
