‘Final element’… Journalist shares what he’s been told about Tottenham’s Djed Spence now

In what has proved an incredibly progressive day for Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans, it seems Djed Spence will head on loan to Genoa.

The defender has returned from his stay with Leeds United and seemingly has no place in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

And as part of the deal to sign centre-back Radu Dragusin, Spence will now head to Italy.

With that being said, journalist James Olley has now shared an intriguing piece of information about the news.

Although some have pitched Spence’s move as a foregone conclusion, Olley suggested that wasn’t quite the case.

Sharing his update on X, the journalist said Spence was initially reluctant to make the move.

Olley said: “Final element of Tottenham’s deal to sign Radu Dragusin from Genoa (€25m + €5m) is convincing Djed Spence to go the other way on loan.

“Told he was initially reluctant but talks are ongoing.”

Of course, this may be a worry to some fans given how important Dragusin’s move could be for Tottenham this month.

As well as securing a stellar defender, the deal also means that Bayern Munich should continue to pursue a move for Eric Dier.

Djed Spence isn’t convinced about leaving Tottenham for Genoa loan

Tottenham fans will probably remain optimistic that a conclusion can still be reached – it doesn’t seem that Spence will play his way into plans.

Pedro Porro has the right-back spot nailed down, he’s been the club’s key performer in recent weeks.

And beyond Porro, Tottenham still have Emerson Royal who many thought would be Postecoglou’s first choice before the season started.

Of course, with Micky van de Ven hoping to be back for the game against Manchester United, the Brazilian may now be relieved of his centre-back duties.

Moreover, if Radu Dragusin completes his move, Spurs will finally have a pairing of two genuine centre-backs.

That could still hinge on Tottenham’s Spence accepting a loan move to Genoa, but there’s nothing concrete to suggest otherwise right now.

And as well as all of this January movement, it seems Spurs are putting plans in place for an audacious summer move
