The transfer saga involving Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Real Madrid is going to dominate the headlines throughout the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract and is free to negotiate terms with a foreign club over a free transfer next summer.
It is no secret that Real Madrid want to sign Alexander-Arnold – they have wanted him for several months now.
Everyone expects a move to happen in the summer, but there is a possibility of a transfer in January.
Real Madrid are still pushing to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in January
On New Year’s Eve, TBR Football confirmed that Liverpool had rejected an approach from Real Madrid to sign Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window.
The Galacticos can sign him for nothing next summer, but Florentino Perez decided to negotiate a deal for the defender six months earlier.
Fabrizio Romano claimed that Real Madrid’s January offer for Alexander-Arnold was to show respect to Liverpool and to help them avoid losing him for free.
The Reds rejected that offer, but the Daily Mail now claim that Real Madrid have still not given up on a move to sign the England right-back this month.
The report claims that ‘Carlo Ancelotti is leading the drive to put the foot on the accelerator now’ – he is pushing Real Madrid to sign Alexander-Arnold in this window.
The European champions are set to try again in the coming days, this time with an official bid. They are said to be prepared to pay around £20 million to sign Alexander-Arnold.
However, the report suggests that it is unlikely that Liverpool will change their stance and allow him to leave the club halfway through the season.

Should Liverpool sell Alexander-Arnold in January?
Liverpool are at serious risk of losing Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer next summer.
That is why a fee of around £20 million seems tempting now, but the Reds are right to reject that temptation and keep hold of their star right-back.
Liverpool are in a great position to win the Premier League and the Champions League. To do that, they need their best players, and Alexander-Arnold is certainly one of them.
To add to that, the England star is causing no problems. David Ornstein revealed that Alexander-Arnold’s behaviour behind the scenes has been exemplary – he is fully committed to achieving success with the Reds this season.
Liverpool should keep Alexander-Arnold at the club beyond the end of the winter window – even if it means they will lose him for nothing next summer.
