What Alexander Isak has done at Newcastle after claims Mikel Arteta wants to sign him for Arsenal

It is no secret that Arsenal like Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.

The Swede is one of the best strikers in the Premier League. He has been incredible for the Magpies since he joined them in the summer of 2022.

Isak scored 25 goals in all competitions in the 2023/24 season. He was arguably Newcastle’s best player, and he has a number of admirers across the Premier League.

Eddie Howe is desperate to keep hold of Isak, and Newcastle will do everything they can to fulfil their manager’s wishes.

But, there could be a problem now.

Arsenal target Alexander Isak stalls contract talks at Newcastle

Isak is Newcastle’s most valuable asset.

Yes, the Toon also have Bruno Guimaraes at the club and he’s extremely important too. But, losing Isak would be a much bigger blow than the Brazilian.

That’s why Newcastle slapped a £171 million price tag on Isak, which made him unaffordable for any of the clubs who were keen to sign him.

Despite that, reports have claimed that Arsenal are still interested in signing Isak. Mikel Arteta is said to be a huge fan of the Newcastle United striker.

Now, the Gunners may have just received a small boost.

GiveMeSport have revealed that ‘Isak has stalled on signing a new contract’ at Newcastle United.

The striker is ‘resisting the temptation’ to pen a new deal at St James’ Park even though it would result in him becoming one of the club’s highest-paid players.

This is not a disaster yet for Newcastle as Isak still has four years left on his contract. But, the fact that he has stalled talks over a new deal is a slight concern.

What signing Isak would mean for Arsenal?

Edu Gaspar and Arteta have built a fantastic squad at Arsenal over the years.

That has enabled them to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title in back-to-back seasons, and they are closer than ever now.

Many feel the missing piece in Arsenal’s puzzle is a new striker. A prolific goalscorer up top who will guarantee over 20 goals a season could make a serious difference at the Emirates.

Isak could be that player for the Premier League runners-up.

Adrian Clarke has claimed that Isak would be ‘perfect’ for Arsenal, and we completely agree with him. We think the Gunners would become the instant favourites to win the title if they land the Swede.

However, we’re sure Newcastle will do everything they can to keep hold of him.
