West Ham United fans are all in agreement on Lukasz Fabianski’s surprise return

West Ham United confirmed Lukasz Fabianski’s return to the club this week, which has left fans feeling the same way.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper left the Hammers at the end of last season after seven years with the club and became a free agent.

Graham Potter’s side have opted to bring the experienced shot-stopper back to the London Stadium on a one-year deal until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Fabianski will now provide further depth in the West Ham squad, giving Potter more defensive options and cover in an important area of the pitch.

West Ham United fans aren’t impressed by re-signing Lukasz Fabianski

Fabianski has been a loyal servant to West Ham throughout his career, making 216 appearances across all competitions after initially joining from Swansea City in 2018.

While Fabianski is likely returning to be a squad player, the general consensus among West Ham fans is one of confusion and disappointment over bringing him back so soon.

West Ham already have Alphonse Areola and summer signing Mads Hermansen at the club in the goalkeeping position, and one fan believes signing Fabianski is “indicative of Potter’s confidence” in the two men he already has available.

Supporters have nothing against Fabianski himself, as he’s well loved among the West Ham faithful, but the lack of ambition and organisation is the problem, as one person said, “This is weird and is it through desperation we asked him back?”

Fans are unimpressed by the board’s lack of long-term planning regarding the goalkeeping position, with one asking, “Do they have a clue what they’re doing?”

Another supporter went even further as they said, “them owners couldn’t run a bath, let alone a football club.”

Graham Potter is already under pressure at West Ham United

Bringing back Fabianski will provide some experience and leadership within the squad, which could prove even more important than anything he does on the pitch.

West Ham have had a tough start to this Premier League campaign, winning just once while suffering heavy defeats against Chelsea and Sunderland.

It has led to Graham Potter already being under pressure in the eyes of the fans, who are desperate not to be dragged into a relegation battle this season.

Signing another older player might not get many people excited. Still, Sam Allardyce praised West Ham for bringing in Callum Wilson at the other end of the field, proving that experience can be helpful.
