West Ham transfer news: Irons were reportedly rivalling Bielsa for seven-assist star; but both set to miss out to PL rival

West Ham are one of the sides set to miss out on Romain Perraud in the transfer window, with The Athletic reporting that the Hammers had been tracking the Southampton-bound full-back.

David Moyes’s side are, of course, gearing up for next season’s Europa League after a stunning campaign at the London Stadium.

What was so impressive about the Irons’ efforts was the way they dealt with certain hurdles and setbacks – including injuries.

They were without Arthur Masuaku for four months before he returned to April. And after making two appearances, he then missed the final seven games.

So it is probably little surprise that Moyes is keen to sign a new left-back this summer. It must also be noted that Aaron Cresswell turns 32 later this year.

And it seems that one of the names on their radar was Perraud. The Brest defender had been linked with Leeds, Newcastle and Southampton.

But The Athletic is now claiming that West Ham had also been monitoring the 23-year-old.

However, they suggest that he is set to move to St Mary’s. A fee has been agreed and personal terms have been finalised.

Perraud now only needs to undergo a medical.

West Ham fans will hope club have exciting transfer up sleeve with Perraud looking a good prospect

Perraud scored three and provided seven assists in Ligue 1 last year. So it is not hard to see why several Premier League clubs were tracking his progress.

It therefore, looks to be a coup for the Saints to get a deal done. And it may well be that some West Ham fans are a little disappointed to miss out.

It does seem that West Ham need extra depth in that area of the field. So the supporters will be hoping that missing out on Perraud only leads to a more exciting deal further down the line.
