West Ham United are now considering a bid for goal-scorer who could be available to Julen Lopetegui’s project for a cut-price this summer.

Right now, Lopetegui and Tim Steidten are said to be prioritising the addition of a centre-back, a right-back and a new forward.

If reports are to be believed, that centre-back may well be Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman, who has interest from a host of Premier League sides.

And given that both Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma could potentially depart from West Ham in the coming months, they may well need to recruit more than one defender.

Lopetegui reportedly wants to add up to eight players to his West Ham squad, with a new striker also seen as a priority.

West Ham’s attempts to sign a new centre-forward have been pretty hopeless in recent years, with 34-year-old Michail Antonio still the club’s most effective striker.

Divin Mubama evidently has strong potential, but doesn’t yet seem ready to play a significant role under Lopetegui.

That being said, West Ham have now joined the race to sign Lille front-man Jonathan David.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs who shared his update on X, West Ham are considering a bid for David, who could be available for as little as £21m.

The Canada international, who is currently at Copa America, has just one-year left on his Lille contract as of this summer, explaining why he may be available.

West Ham’s London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be monitoring the situation, a player they’ve both followed for some time.

Jacobs shared: “Chelsea, Spurs, Manchester United and West Ham all considering a move for Lille striker Jonathan David, who is expected to be available for €25m-30m.

“Spurs have had David on their radar for a year. #CFC discussed David during Graham Potter’s spell in charge.”

Of course, were West Ham able to secure a deal for David, it would have to be seen as a huge coup.

Still only 24-years-old, the numbers mentioned are extremely reasonable for a striker who has been linked with Europe’s best teams over the years.

And signing a player of David’s ‘elite’ calibre would be a real signal of intent by Lopetegui and Steidten for this new era.

All that being said, Manchester United may be about to rival West Ham for one target this summer.
