Julen Lopetegui already looking to sign eight players for West Ham in major revamp

West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui is targeting as many as eight new signings at the club this summer.

Having taken the reins from David Moyes, there will immediately be a fair bit of pressure on Lopetegui to prove why he’s an upgrade on the Scotsman.

Perhaps being judged so soon would appear harsh, but it’s simply the reality of such a call to part ways with Moyes, who wasn’t doing an awful lot wrong.

But buoyed by a healthy relationship between Lopetegui and Tim Steidten, those at West Ham will be excited by this new era.

However, that enthusiasm may have to be put on ice for the time being, considering nearly £40m worth of deals may be about to collapse.

Earlier, TBR Football shared an update from a Brazilian expert explaining how Palmeiras’ Luis Guilherme would fit at West Ham.

However, in the hours since, The Guardian are reporting that a £26m deal for Guilherme could now be off owing to personal terms, with the same issue surfacing in a deal for Flamengo’s £13m centre-back Fabricio Bruno.

Both Guilherme and Bruno are leaning towards a move to the Saudi Pro League for bigger wages, with West Ham reportedly resigned to miss out on the pair.

Interestingly, the same report from The Guardian details that Lopetegui wants six to eight signings at West Ham to begin his new era.

Lopetegui is thought to be a harmonious fit with Steidten, which will perhaps now already be put to the test if the club need to draw up a new list of targets.

In terms of active deals, the club are thought to be pursuing a move for Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri right now, who is thought to prefer a move to West Ham over Aston Villa.

Signing a new striker is surely an obvious sticking point of West Ham’s summer, with their current options simply not equipped for their ambitions.

Putting Jarrod Bowen playing centrally aside, Michail Antonio, who can still be very effective at times, should only be playing a back-up role given his age and injuries.

And whilst En-Nesyri may be a stellar addition for now, perhaps a younger striker would be preferable, someone to really refresh the department.

That being said, West Ham are said to have now made a bid to sign former Premier League star Wilfried Zaha.
