West Ham United have reportedly set their sights on Luka Jovic.

According to Eurosport, the Hammers are considering a move for the Real Madrid fringe player.

However, the Hammers may fancy their chances of landing the 23-year-old this time round.

Jovic appears surplus to Carlo Ancelotti’s requirements and could reportedly be offloaded for just £35million (AS).

If the Eurosport report is true then West Ham fans should be excited about the prospect of Jovic at the London Stadium.

West Ham target Jovic – the story so far

Jovic came through the ranks at Red Star Belgrade and made his professional debut in 2014 aged just 16.

It wasn’t long before he was on the move, joining Benfica in 2016.

Jovic then linked up with Eintracht Frankfurt on an initial loan deal in June 2017.

The Serbia international made a name for himself at the German club, scoring 27 goals in 47 appearances in 2018-19.

Frankfurt had taken up the option to sign Jovic permanently in April 2019.

They then sold him to Real Madrid that summer for a reported 60million euro (£53million).

However, Jovic has struggled at the Bernabeu, with just two goals and two assists from 32 competitive appearances.

He spent the second half of 2020-21 back on loan in Frankfurt, registering four goals and two assists from 18 appearances.

Jovic has also won 14 caps for Serbia, registering five goals and two assists for his nation.

Jovic style of play

The Coaches’ Voice wrote two years ago: “Jovic offers a versatile attacking threat.

“He can play as a lone striker or as one of a two or even three-strong attack.

“His ability to take goalscoring chances is perhaps his finest attribute.

“He is clinical with both feet, strong in the air and fast enough to threaten with direct runs in behind.

The (then) 21-year-old has a fine change of direction.

“Through the timing of his movement, he can draw opponents into challenges before accelerating away.

“Should a defender then prove a match over short distances, his power makes him difficult to dispossess.

“And his link-up play is also improving, meaning he can now often be seen assisting the assist.”

And over the years, fans have compared him to some amazing strikers.
