Report: West Ham plan to open talks with in-form winger over a new contract
West Ham are planning to open talks with Jarrod Bowen over a new contract at the London Stadium, according to the Evening Standard.
The winger has been West Ham’s best player in recent weeks. He has 12 goal involvements in his last 10 appearances to make him one of the Premier League’s most in-form players.
With the numbers the Englishman is hitting it’s no wonder he has reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool.
Fans and pundits alike are calling for a first call-up to the England squad for Bowen. Meanwhile, Moyes and the Hammers hierarchy wish to reward him for his performances as well as fend off interest from other clubs.
Bowen has slotted straight into the starting eleven since joining from Hull in January 2020. This is his second full season in the Premier League, with three-and-a-half years left on his current contract.
And reports suggest talks over an extension aren’t expected to start until the Summer.
The 25-year-old has already equalled his goal tally for last season, having played 13 fewer games, and only Mohamed Salah has more goal involvements this campaign.
Speaking about his current form, Bowen told the official West Ham website: “I definitely keep an eye on my numbers.’
‘I set myself targets at the start of every season and, as well as it’s probably gone for me, I probably could have done so much more and maybe scored more and assisted more.’
‘But I think maybe that is down to myself and pushing myself and wanting to be the best that I can be.’
‘This season, for me, has been about progression again.’
‘I’ve done better than last season and we’ve still got the second half to go, so I want to score as many and assist as many as possible and hit my targets.”
