West Ham United are reportedly in talks to sign Real Madrid defender Miguel Gutierrez on loan this summer. The talented teenager had been the subject of interest from Arsenal and Leeds, but the Hammers are leading the charge. West Ham fans have reacted to the news regarding Gutierrez.

Gutierrez, 19, has sprung onto the radar of Premier League clubs after coming through the ranks at Real. A Spain Under-19 international, the Real Madrid left-back has clocked up six senior appearances for the Galacticos under Zinedine Zidane. He is a regular in Raul’s Castilla side.

The Daily Star report that West Ham are in talks to land Gutierrez – who has a £34million release clause – on loan until the end of the season. Arsenal and Leeds were keen, but the Whites have since signed Junior Firpo from Barcelona. Arsenal still boast Kieran Tierney, and Cedric Soares.

What are West Ham fans saying about Gutierrez?

Well first off, West Ham do need another option at left-back. Aaron Cresswell has been used on the left side of a back three, meaning that they need more cover at left wing-back. Ben Johnson is a right-back and Arthur Masuaku is ideal for the role – but becoming somewhat injury prone.

With the Hammers entering the Europa League and both workload and travel increasing, they need more depth and left-back in particular. Gutierrez on loan makes sense, then. He can provide cover and play in Europe. West Ham fans have reacted on Twitter to his potential arrival.
