Report: West Ham in talks over loan move for £34m-rated Real Madrid ace, Arsenal and Leeds also keen
The Daily Star have claimed that West Ham United have opened talks to sign Real Madrid left-back Miguel Gutierrez on loan this summer. The talented flyer has attracted interest from the Hammers, as well as Leeds and Arsenal. But West Ham have stolen a march, as they discuss a loan.
Gutierrez, 19, was handed his first six senior appearances by Zinedine Zidane last season. The 10-time Spain Under-19 international had impressed for Raul’s Castilla side – and that had convinced Zidane. But the Frenchman has now left, and Gutierrez could leave on loan this summer.
West Ham are in talks as they look to bolster the left side of their defence. Gutierrez has a £34million release clause but the Hammers want him on loan, after interest from Leeds and Arsenal cooled. Leeds are expected to complete the signing of Junior Firpo from Barcelona this week.
Do West Ham need a left-back this summer, in the form of Gutierrez?
The Hammers have Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku as options, while Ben Johnson can play on either side of the defence. So, on the face of it, there are three solid options. But Cresswell is being used on the left side of a back three, and Johnson is a right-back, naturally right-footed.
Masuaku spent a while on the sidelines last season through injury. So delve a little deeper and the Hammers need a left-back, especially with participation in the Europa League on the horizon. So, signing a player like Gutierrez on loan would be key for Europe and to act as cover.
