Chelsea have bought and sold a plethora of players over the years, but Wesley Fofana believes the club got rid of the strongest player he’s ever seen in 2023.
One area of the pitch where there has been lots of transfer activity is the defence, particularly at centre back, as the Blues have tried to replace Thiago Silva.
Fofana was one of those expensive purchases as he was brought in for £70million from Leicester City.
Throughout his time at Chelsea, Fofana has seen many players come and go, including someone who was brought in during the same transfer window as him and who was very strong.

Wesley Fofana reveals Kalidou Koulibaly was ‘crazy’ strong
Fofana was tasked with building his perfect defender during an interview with CFC Unlocked, and when it came to strength, there was only one man on his mind, Kalidou Koulibaly.
“Strength, strength I would put Kalidou Koulibaly, he was crazy, crazy,” Fofana said.
Chelsea signed Koulibaly in July 2022 for £33million on a four-year contract, and there was a lot of hype and excitement surrounding him.
Koulibaly even took up John Terry’s famous number 26, raising many supporters’ expectations about what he would deliver.
Unfortunately, Koulibaly’s time at Chelsea didn’t quite work out as he left the club after making just 32 appearances across all competitions.
In June 2023, the Blues sold him to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal for £20million, where he remains to this day.
Wesley Fofana has had an injury-plagued time at Chelsea
Fofana hasn’t had much luck during his time at Chelsea, as he has dealt with many injury problems throughout his spell at Stamford Bridge.
In November 2023, he suffered an ACL injury that kept him out of action for the entire season. His game time has been restricted ever since, as the Blues have slowly managed him.
Right now, the central defender is in concussion protocol after colliding with Filip Jorgensen during their EFL Cup fixture against Lincoln City.
