'We will miss him': Manager says Newcastle have snapped up a truly 'brilliant' player
Newcastle United completed the signing of Dan Burn on transfer deadline day and Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter has had his say on the move.
The Magpies have been very busy throughout the window. They tried to get a number of deals done, and although they couldn’t get every one of them over the line, they will be happy with the business they’ve done.
Brighton, on the other hand, weren’t really keen on letting Burn leave them on transfer deadline day.
However, Potter has claimed that the reason he allowed Burn to move to Newcastle was that the Magpies are his boyhood club and the defender could well end his career there.
Graham Potter: Newcastle new boy Dan Burn is a superb professional
The Seagulls boss said, as per Sky Sports: “We were not actively looking to sell Dan during this window, but the transfer represents a very good transfer for our club and the player.
“Newcastle are Dan’s boyhood club, and this move allows him to potentially play out the rest of his career at his home club.
“Ever since I have been at the club, Dan has been brilliant for me. He is a superb professional, adaptable and a great character on and off the pitch.
“We will miss him here, but we understand his reasons for wanting to move and he goes with our thanks and very best wishes for the future.”

Dan Burn is a really shrewd signing by Newcastle United ahead of their relegation battle.
The 29-year-old has tons of experience under his belt and has been in this position in the past. He can play in centre-half as well as at left-back, and his aerial prowess in both boxes adds a new dimension to Newcastle’s game.
Eddie Howe wanted to bring in the likes of Sven Botman, Diego Carlos and Benoit Badiashile, and each of them would’ve been a fantastic addition to the squad.
Burn may not be as big a name as any of those players, but he is arguably the best equipped for the job at hand and he could play a massive part in helping Newcastle get out of the hole they are currently in.
