‘We said’: Harry Kane shares what Tottenham’s players were saying in the dressing room at half-time vs Liverpool

It was another disappointing start to a match for Tottenham Hotspur, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool yesterday.

Tottenham’s slow starts are now becoming a worrying habit for Antonio Conte’s side, who are now regularly having to come back from behind in games.

Spurs’ goal scorer Harry Kane spoke to the club’s official website after the match.

Tottenham have now gone behind in each of their last six matches.

They managed to fight back to beat Marseille and Bournemouth, but yesterday showed they can’t win every game in this manner.

Ivan Perisic twice hit the woodwork, but ultimately Kane looked too isolated until Dejan Kulusevski came off the bench.

Given the Swede’s importance to the side, Conte would have brought him on as soon as he could.

However, Kulusevski’s long-term fitness has to be the priority, as Tottenham’s performances massively dropped in his absence.

Kane has shared what Tottenham players were saying at half-time as they looked to overturn another deficit.

There was certainly an improvement in Tottenham’s second-half performance, but it was too little, too late to come away with any points.

Speaking after the match, Kane was asked what was in the dressing room during the break.

“We said the same, we said at half-time that if we got one goal we would be right in the game and we did that,” Kane said.

“We definitely had chances, a big chance from a set piece and flick on from crosses that didn’t quite fall for us.

“That’s been our season so far, we can come back in games and really come strong in the last half an hour but the first-halves especially we haven’t been good enough.”

Tottenham still find themselves in the Champions League places despite their recent dip in form.

Kane’s fine form has gone unnoticed at times this season, in part due to the freaking scoring record of Erling Haaland.

However, he goes into the World Cup with 11 league goals to his name.

Gary Neville thinks he may actually be quite pleased with his performance yesterday.

Kane was very isolated until Kulusevski came on, but still managed to create several chances for himself and his teammates.

However, he’ll be hoping Tottenham’s players don’t have to say to each other what needs to improve at half-time going forward.

Spurs will be looking over their shoulders soon enough if they can’t shake off their slow starts.
