‘We have to talk’…Micah Richards says there’s two Tottenham players he just has to speak about now

Tottenham hammered Newcastle yesterday and Micah Richards has lauded the performances of Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie.

The Tottenham full-backs were once again in fine form as they caused problems for Newcastle all day.

Udogie got himself a goal while Porro was a constant menace down the right. Both players, Porro in particular, seem to be flying under Ange Postecoglou, with the system tailored to get both players into the final third.

Of course, full-backs stepping into midfield is nothing brand new and speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Micah Richards admitted he couldn’t believe how good Porro and Udogie were playing.

“We have to talk about the Spurs full-backs. The inverted full backs. I did a piece yesterday on Match of the Day 2 and we talked about Trent doing it at Liverpool, Cancelo at City, but Udogie and Porro yesterday were magnificent. It’s not just getting in there, when they are getting there they are doing it with a purpose.

“They are playing through balls, when they build up they got straight in there, they don’t wait. I just think Spurs now, they might not finish top two or challenge for the league like we were saying a couple of weeks ago, but it’s just a joy to see a team on the front foot,” Richards said.

Porro and Udogie shining for Tottenham

Full-backs seem to be getting more and more important in the modern game and Tottenham seem to have got themselves a brilliant pair here.

Both Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro look like they are tailor-made to play under Postecoglou. And given they weren’t signed for this manager, it is a testament to all three that it’s working so well.

Porro seems to be growing in confidence by the week and is getting more and more vocal as well it seems.

Udogie, meanwhile, just oozes class and is a true athlete in terms of what a modern-day full-back should be.

Tottenham have got these two positions completely locked down and they’re the envy of a lot of the Europe really with how well the duo are playing.

Injuries have robbed Spurs of some big players this season as we know. But if Udogie and Porro can stay fit, then there is every chance that the club enjoys some success this season.
