Virgil van Dijk says £34m Liverpool player was ‘very unlucky’ against AC Milan

Liverpool beat AC Milan 3-1 on Tuesday as Arne Slot picked up his first Champions League win as the Reds’ manager.

The Merseyside club got off to a rocky start as they went 1-0 down early on against Milan, but three goals from Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai gave the Reds a comfortable victory.

Liverpool could easily have won by more on the day as Mohamed Salah hit the crossbar twice in the game.

Speaking on the official Liverpool podcast after the match, Virgil van Dijk has been discussing Salah’s performance at San Siro, and he says the Egyptian was very unlucky in this tie.

Mohamed Salah was unlucky vs AC Milan

Van Dijk spoke about Salah’s performance.

“Yeah he was obviously very unlucky hitting the crossbar twice. He obviously played his part again with the danger he creates. He’s a very important player if not one of the best out there,” Van Dijk said.

Mohamed Salah looked red hot

Mohamed Salah may not have scored against AC Milan, but he was back to his best in this game.

The £34m man struggled to make anything happen at the weekend against Nottingham Forest as Alex Moreno put in a fantastic left-back showing.

However, in this game, Salah looked as sharp as he ever has, and, on another day, he’d be walking away with two goals to his name.

Salah will be so important if Liverpool are to make a deep run in the Champions League this season, and it looks as though he’s very much up to the test that lies ahead of Liverpool.

Salah was unlucky against Milan, but he knows better than anyone that these things can happen, and he’ll want to get back to goalscoring ways this weekend against Bournemouth.

Liverpool’s star man looks as though he’s ready to do something seriously special this season.
