Nottingham Forest picked up arguably their best league result since their Premier League return at the weekend with a 1-0 win against Anfield.
Forest have won against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in recent years, but a victory at Anfield for the first time in 55 years was so sweet on Saturday.
The Reds beat Liverpool with a perfect away performance, and speaking to Off The Ball, Mark Lawrenson has been purring over Forest’s showing.
Lawrenson was very impressed by Forest on Saturday, and he was particularly blown away by Alex Moreno’s performance at left-back, claiming that he put in the best left-back performance he’s ever seen against Mohamed Salah.

Mark Lawrenson blown away by Alex Moreno
The pundit shared his verdict on the £13m Forest left-back.
“Yeah, Forest were excellent. Nuno got his tactics absolutely 100% right. The timing of his substitutions were excellent and the two players who came on were excellent. I’ve never seen a better display from a left-back against Salah in all my years of watching them there. The left-back for Forest, wow, he was quick, strong, and he could play, top draw,” Lawrenson said.
Nottingham Forest’s brilliant defence
Nottingham Forest have quietly built and incredible defensive unit.
Alex Moreno looks fantastic, Murillo was an absolute star last season, while Morato and Nikola Milenkovic both have top level experience as well.
Add in Ola Aina at right-back and you have a defensive unit that is incredible.
There’s a reason Forest have conceded just two goals in four games so far this season, and it’s because they’ve built an incredibly sturdy backline that is very difficult to get past.
Stopping Mohamed Salah is no easy feat, but Moreno managed to pocket the Egyptian on Saturday with relative ease.
After years of trying different solutions, Nottingham Forest may have finally solved their left-back conundrum.
