After six appearances for Arsenal, Viktor Gyokeres has three goals to his name.
Before he arrived at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta probably intended to rotate Viktor Gyokeres with Kai Havertz during his early months at Arsenal.
Gyokeres played in a Sporting CP team with very different ideas last term, and there’s no doubt that he’ll need time to adapt in north London.
But Havertz’s untimely injury has meant that Gyokeres has had to settle on the fly – he’s become a one size fits all striker.
In games against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, Havertz might still be intended to start as Arteta’s number nine, but the option simply wasn’t there over the past month or so.
And although Gyokeres struggled against City to a degree, he doesn’t deserve to be scrutinised too heavily.
Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist share their Viktor Gyokeres doubts
That being said, both Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist took their chance to discuss Gyokeres’ form on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning.
Following the Swede’s fruitless efforts against Man City, Brazil was keen to ask McCoist whether he thought Gyokeres was the top level striker Arsenal need.

And in reply, McCoist expressed his own doubts, even if he chose to stay somewhat reserved on the topic.
Starting the chat, Brazil said: “I want to talk to you about Gyokeres as well, maybe I’ve been negative today. Listen, don’t get me wrong, he works his socks off, he tries his hardest, but is he up there? I’m thinking of Arsenal winning the Premier League.
McCoist: “Not sure.”
Brazil: “Is he up there to take half chances and score attacking goals?”
McCoist: “Not sure.”
Brazil: “I’m not faulting his work-rate, which is brilliant, but class, I worry.”
Newcastle United might be the perfect match up for Viktor Gyokeres
Of course, Arsenal are still trying to learn how to play to their new striker’s strengths – he’s a different player to Havertz.
And Arteta spoke about Gyokeres’ lack of service against City, an outing that was frustrating for all parties wearing red.
But perhaps a match away to Newcastle United on Sunday might suit the Swede’s ability to thrive on the break.

Eddie Howe has an excellent record against Arsenal, and Newcastle will dominate the ball/play at times at St James’ Park.
In the past, Arsenal haven’t had a forward who they can merely hit over the top during tough away trips, but Gyokeres gives them exactly that.
And after six games in an Arsenal shirt, it’s still far too early to judge the former Sporting CP man, who was just handed the Gerd Muller Trophy.
