‘Very, very good’: Alan Shearer was blown away by one Newcastle United player’s performance yesterday
The Paraguayan winger was on fire for the Toon, as Newcastle ran out 4-1 winners against Fulham.
Almiron had a very successful visit to Craven Cottage, scoring a brace against the newly promoted side.
His first goal was a sumptuous strike, connecting beautifully with a volley after a lovely clipped ball from Bruno Guimaraes.
Almiron then scored the final goal of the rout, tapping in at the back post after Joe Willock squared the ball across the box.
Newcastle’s number 24 thought he’d scored a hat-trick, but was marginally offside.
As reported on the BBC Sport live blog (1/10 5:13pm), Shearer said: “They scored some good goals and Almiron was very, very good. Good win and a good performance.”
Shearer impressed with Almiron
It was a superb performance from Almiron as he took advantage of some poor Fulham defending.
His manager has previously described him as ‘excellent’ for his performances this season.
Miguel Almiron isn’t the most prolific goal scorer, and has already topped his tally from last season.
He only needs two more goals to record his best ever goal scoring season in the Premier League.
The technique required to score his first goal shows that he’s more than capable of putting the ball in the back of the net more.
He would have been as impressed as Shearer was with Almiron’s performance yesterday.
The games come thick and fast now before the World Cup, and Almiron will be hoping he can keep this form up.
