Newcastle United midfielder Miguel Almiron was the subject of praise from his manager Eddie Howe this evening after they drew with Man City.
The Magpies were 3-1 up before a superb City fight back helped Pep Guardiola take a point away from St James’ Park in the Super Sunday game live on Sky. For Newcastle, Allan Saint-Maximin put in an inspired performance to worry the City defence all afternoon.

However, the Frenchman didn’t get on the scoresheet, instead settling for assists. One of those players he set up was Almiron, who bundled in Saint-Maximin’s cross from close range. And speaking to the BBC after the game, Newcastle boss Howe was delighted for Almiron to get on the scoresheet.
‘I’m very pleased to see Almiron score. He was excellent and his pre-season was good. A fitting reward for him,” Howe said of his attacking midfielder.
“You need performances but you need the result at the end of the day so I’m pleased for the players we got something today.”
Almiron has had an inconsistent time of things in the main since arriving in the northeast. However, his work-ethic and love for the club has seen the Toon Army take a shining to him.
TBR’s View: Almiron Reborn Under Eddie Howe
There is no doubt Eddie Howe is getting the best out of a player who does have so much potential in a Newcastle United shirt.
Almiron was on it today and he was a menace all afternoon for the City players, who struggled to cope with his energy and constant pressing in the final third.
Getting the goal was nice for Almiron and it’s a nice touch from Howe to single him out. Saint-Maximin might have got the MOTM award, but Miguel Almiron was more than deserving of his mention here.
