‘Very good player’: William Saliba has been so impressed with £27m Arsenal player, they’re great friends
The Gunners fell to a 3-1 defeat against Roberto De Zerbi’s side as Mikel Arteta heavily rotated his team.
Last night would have been a bitter sweet moment for Saliba, who despite the defeat received some very good news.
The young centre-back earned a call-up to France’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
It will be Saliba’s first senior international tournament, and his fine form this season means his call-up is well deserved.
One player who narrowly missed out on being involved was Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes.
However, despite that disappointment Saliba has spoken about how impressed he’s been with Gabriel since being a part of Arsenal’s first-team squad.
Not only that, the pair are great friends off the pitch, and that relationship has certainly helped on the pitch.
Saliba has been very impressed with Gabriel
The French defender was asked about his centre-back partner – who came on for him last night – and said: “He’s a good partner, a very good player but every defender in this team we are so close.
“That’s why we start well and we haven’t conceded a lot of goals in the league. So, it’s good because we are all friends, we are all together.
“We are all close. Some people I didn’t know before but now this season I try to be close with them.
“But we are all close because it’s a young team with some older guys but it’s good, we are close even off the pitch.”
Gabriel extending his stay at The Emirates last month, signing a new long-term deal.
Saliba’s contract is one of those next on the agenda for Arsenal, and they’re optimistic he’ll be signing a new deal too.
Saliba and Gabriel is an impressive partnership that the Gunners can build on for years to come.
The young Frenchman even showed some of his leadership credentials last night, which bodes well for the future.
Saliba now has the opportunity to showcase his talents on the biggest stage in Qatar later this month.
