West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta has admitted he’s struggling to communicate with some of his teammates at times.

The Brazilian midfielder was talking about how he’s working on his English skills, as per The Athletic.

Even if he’s not able to have fluent conversations with his teammates yet, he’s certainly letting his football do the talking.

Paqueta produced a fantastic assist for Gianluca Scamacca’s goal that gave West Ham the lead against Fulham.

The Hammers ended up running out 3-1 winners in a match full of contention, with suggestions of handball for two of West Ham’s goals.

It was Paqueta’s first goal involvement since arriving from Lyon in the summer for a club-record £51m fee.

However, the way he’s playing this season suggests Hammers fan can expect a lot more from Paqueta going forward.

He produced a fantastic piece of skill against Anderlecht last week that caught the attention of Real Madrid star Rodrygo.

Paqueta has admitted he’s putting in the hard work off the pitch as well as on it, as he’s currently struggling to communicate with people at West Ham.

Speaking after the match, the Brazilian said: “I’m happy with my performance and my assist.

“I’m feeling more comfortable and understanding my team-mates more. I believe I can only get better.

“I was really pleased with the recognition, the support and the confidence the fans have in me. I hope that I paid it back on the pitch.

“The language is still very difficult for me. I’m doing lessons and trying my best.

“It’s important to speak to my team-mates, and the coaches — but I’m dedicating myself to it and I hope to be able to speak a little bit soon.”

West Ham signed another Portuguese speaker this summer in defender Emerson Palmieri.

His time at Chelsea means he could act as a translator for the Brazilian playmaker.

However, the dedication Paqueta is showing to learning the language is encouraging for West Ham.

It shows he’s certainly keen to be at the club in the long-term.

After his performances this season, Hammers fans would be over the moon with that.
