‘He is a great player’: Van Dijk says player Spurs and Chelsea want is better than him already

Liverpool star, Virgil van Dijk, has been praising young Netherlands defender Jurrien Timber, amid links to both Tottenham and Chelsea.

Timber was said to be a target for both Spurs and the Blues this summer. Reports had claimed the London duo were among a number of high-profile European clubs keen on signing the youngster. In the end, though, Timber remained in Amsterdam and he’s made another fine start to the season both at home and on the international stage.

And after playing next to Timber for Holland this week against Poland, Liverpool star Van Dijk has put high praise on his young teammate, saying he’s even better than he was at this stage. (Goal)

“I wasn’t nearly as far along as he is now,” he told reporters. “I have nothing but praise for him. He is a great player and a true professional. He has so much potential. Hopefully he can develop further. Then he will be all right, I think,” Van Dijk commented on his fellow Dutchman.

Certainly, it does seem that Timber is one of the next in a long line of top talents to come from the Eredivisie in recent times. Ajax, as we know very well, have a habit of producing top players who go onto even bigger and better things.

TBR’s View: Timber One To Watch In January

There is a big chance we see a lot of movement in January due to the World Cup and Jurrien Timber is a player we should all take note of.

Already seen by big clubs as a fine player, this praise from Van Dijk will simply add more credence to the claims he is one of the Netherlands’ top young players.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham are by no means done with spending in the next few windows either. With that, Timber might well end up in London somewhere.
