Report: Tottenham and Chelsea keen on Ajax defender Jurrien Timber
Both Tottenham and Chelsea are among a cluster of clubs who are keen on signing Ajax defender and Dutch international, Jurrien Timber.
Timber, 20, is already a firm fixture in the Netherlands’ set-up, with six caps to his name already at full international level. And 90Min claim that both Tottenham and Chelsea have been keeping tabs on him.
However, there’re a host of other clubs interested in Timber as well. PSG, Dortmund, Monaco, Lyon, and RB Leipzig are all being linked by 90Min with being interested.
Timber helped Ajax win the Eredivisie last season and is now seen as an integral player under Erik ten Hag. 90Min suggest his contract expires in 2024, but he could attract bids before that.
Both Spurs and Chelsea have enjoyed active enough summer transfer windows this year. The Blues added star striker Romelu Lukaku, while Spurs snapped up a number of players under the guidance of new transfer supremo, Fabio Paratici.
20-year-old Timber is a centre-back by trade. If he does enjoy another good season over in the Netherlands, then he could well get his move soon.
TBR’s View: Bidding war to start next summer?
Timber is yet another player off the long line of Ajax youngsters who have made a big impression on Europe in recent seasons.
With Timber, he is clearly working towards making that next step. And after seeing PL clubs splash the cash this summer, it won’t be a surprise to see more money being chucked at things next year.
Both Chelsea and Spurs need a long-term central defensive option. Timber, then, could well be the man to solve that issue.
