Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Inter Milan star Valentino Lazaro and his agent has commented on the potential switch, after reportedly taking in the win over Chelsea on Saturday evening.
Lazaro, 23, is expected to leave Inter this month with the 28-time Austria international managing just 11 appearances for Antonio Conte’s side this season since his £20million (Goal) move to the Italian side in the summer.
With Newcastle suffering from a lengthy list of injuries this season, Lazaro is one of a number of players being linked with a move to Newcastle. Reports also claim that Schalke midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has passed a medical at Newcastle.
Lazaro’s agent agent, Max Hagmayr, has been quoted by the Chronicle as saying that he was in Newcastle for talks recently but there is no agreement to move to Tyneside. Hagmayr also stated that there are other sides interested in Lazaro.
“I was in Newcastle and we had talks, but there is no agreement yet,” Hagmayr said. “As for the future, we’ll see what happens over the next few days. There isn’t just Newcastle, he has other options.”
TBR’s view – Lazaro has become a must for Newcastle
That is because injuries to Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett have seen the duo ruled out for the rest of the season. It leaves Newcastle with little option on the left side of their defence, a position that Lazaro can play.
Signing Lazaro, or a left-sided defender, is absolutely pivotal for Newcastle between now and the end of the season. It remains to be seen if Newcastle can bring in a player to cover the loss of Willems and Dummett.
