Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was asked who he’d rather have in his team – Philippe Coutinho or Jack Grealish?

The Argentine joined Villa from Arsenal for £17 million (BBC) at the start of last season and he has been one of the best players in his position in the Premier League since. He has really impressed everyone and he could achieve something really special at Aston Villa with all the top-quality players they have now.

Coutinho is definitely one of them. The Brazilian joined the Villans on loan from Barcelona in January. There’s a good chance that he’ll make that move permanent in the summer and Martinez would absolutely love that.

The ex-Arsenal man feels that Coutinho is absolutely unreal and has suggested that he may even be better than Grealish.

The Copa America winner sat down for an interview with Ben Foster on Amazon Prime Video’s YouTube channel.

“When we lost Jack last season, he was the best player. I thought (to myself after Coutinho joined Villa): ‘Actually, if we signed Phil early on in the season, we’d be fighting (for) top seven’.”

Asked who he’d rather have between Coutinho or Grealish, he said: “That’s a tough one, they’re both amazing.

“Jack was on fire last season but Phil is unreal. I did an interview last season saying Jack Grealish is Messi with a right foot. (But) when I see Phil turning, wow!

“The best Phil, you will see later in the season. Top lad, humble!”

Coutinho and Grealish are both absolutely incredible players. Both of them have been stars at the top level and although the Englishman is in his prime now, the Brazilian is more than capable of winning games on his own as well.

Since his arrival in January, Coutinho has been brilliant for Villa. He has changed the mood around the club and if he keeps firing, Steven Gerrard’s side will have a real chance of finishing as high as ninth in the league table – maybe even eighth if Wolves continue to slip up.

Grealish really was a big miss for Villa early in the season but now that Coutinho’s here and playing really well, fans can finally move on.
